Roanoke, Virginia Reporter, Photographer Shot To Death During Live Interview

By On Wednesday, August 26, 2015

MONETA, Va. (AP) — A TV reporter and cameraman were shot to death during a live television interview Wednesday by a gunman who recorded himself carrying out the killings and posted the video on social media after fleeing the scene.
Authorities identified the suspect as a fellow journalist who had been fired from the station earlier this year. A man believed to be the gunman later crashed a vehicle after fleeing a traffic stop, and pursuing troopers found him suffering from a gunshot wound.

The shooter has been identified as Bryce Williams, real name Vester Lee Flanagan II, a former reporter at WDBJ
He was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, state police said.
The shots rang out on-air as reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward were presenting a local tourism story. Viewers saw her scream and run, and she could be heard saying "Oh my God," as she fell. Ward fell, too, and the camera he had been holding on his shoulder captured a fleeting image of the suspect holding a handgun.
ADDITION APTOPIX On Air Shooting
WDBJ quickly switched back to the anchor at the station, her eyes large and jaw dropping as she said, "OK, not sure what happened there." The station later went live again, reporting on their own station and staff as the story developed.
The suspect was identified as Vester Lee Flanagan II, 41, of Roanoke, by the Augusta County Sheriff's Office. Flanagan appeared on WDBJ as Bryce Williams.
Jeffrey Marks, WDBJ's president and general manager, said Flanagan had to be escorted by police out of the station when he was fired. Marks described him as "an unhappy man" and "difficult to work with," always "looking out for people to say things he could take offense to."
"Eventually after many incidents of his anger ... we dismissed him. He did not take that well," Marks explained.
Video posted hours after the shooting on Bryce Williams' Twitter account and Facebook page showed an outstretched arm holding the handgun and firing repeatedly at Parker as she tried to run away.

The shooter appeared to walk up to the victims and stand a few feet away from them while holding the weapon. The three, in the midst of a live TV interview, do not seem to notice the gunman, who doesn't start shooting until Ward points the camera at Parker and her interview subject, Vicki Gardner, who was in stable condition after surgery for her wounds.
Parker is heard screaming and is seen running away as shots are fired. Roughly 15 shots can be heard, including several that were fired after the video goes dark.
Tweets posted on Williams' Twitter account Wednesday described workplace conflicts with both victims. They say Williams filed complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against Parker, and that Ward had reported Williams to human resources.
Marks said Williams alleged that other employees made racially tinged comments to him, but said his EEOC claim was dismissed and none of his allegations could be corroborated.
"We think they were fabricated," Marks said.
ABC News reported on its website that the network received a 23-page fax from someone claiming to be Williams. The network said the fax was turned over to authorities, and did not elaborate on its contents.
Both the victims were romantically involved with other employees at the station, according to Parker's boyfriend, WDBJ anchor Chris Hurst. He wrote online that they hadn't shared their relationship publicly but "were very much in love." He said they had just moved in together and wanted to get married. "I am numb," he said.

The shooting happened around 6:45 a.m. at Bridgewater Plaza in Franklin County, as Parker interviewed Gardner about the upcoming 50th anniversary festivities for Smith Mountain Lake, a local tourism destination.
Ward, 27, graduated from Virginia Tech University and was engaged to a producer at the station, Melissa Ott, said WDBJ spokesman Mike Morgan.
"Adam was our go-to guy. He pretty much was available to do anything that we asked," Morgan said. "He did live shots during our morning show for several years."

Adam Ward
Parker had just turned 24 and had joined the station as an intern after attending James Madison University, where she was the editor of the school's newspaper, The Breeze. According to her Facebook page, Parker spent most of her life outside Martinsville, Virginia. She was an avid kayaker and attended community theater events in her spare time.
The station is based in Roanoke, Virginia, and serves the southwest and central part of the state. The shootings happened at a mall just off Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta, about 25 miles southeast of Roanoke.

Cop Uses Cruiser To Run Over Arizona Robbery Suspect [Video]

By On Wednesday, April 15, 2015

TUCSON, Ariz. (Associated Press) — Dramatic dash-cam video released Tuesday shows a police officer in a Tucson suburb using his cruiser to ram an armed suspect, sending him flying in the air before the car smashes into a wall.
The man survived the Feb. 19 crash, and prosecutors cleared the officer of any wrongdoing.

The video, now getting attention across the U.S., comes at a time of heightened tension over the use of force by police across the country.

The man who was hit, Mario Valencia, 36, faces several felony charges, including assault on a police officer. His attorney, Michelle Cohen-Metzger, has not responded to a request for comment from The Associated Press.

Mario Valencia
Marana police Sgt. Chris Warren said Valencia robbed a convenience store in Tucson, broke into a church, invaded a home and stole a car. Valencia drove the stolen car to Marana, just north of Tucson, where he stole a rifle from a Wal-Mart.
Video from two different police cruisers shows Valencia walking down a busy business corridor with a rifle in his hands. At one point, Valencia points the rifle at himself and threatens to kill himself.
One of the dash cam videos shows an officer slowly driving behind Valencia as he shoots the rifle in the air. That officer tells others to stay back because the suspect is armed.
But within seconds, a different officer drives his patrol car at high speed and rams into Valencia, sending him flying into the air. Officers with guns drawn quickly swarm the scene.

Officer Michael Rapiejko
The officer has been identified as Michael Rapiejko. Warren said Rapiejko was put on a standard administrative leave because the incident was considered use of force. The Pima County Attorney's Office cleared Rapiejko of any wrongdoing and he is back on the force, Warren said.

Suge Knight Hit & Run Victim Cries on the Stand ... I Ain't Snitching!

By On Monday, April 13, 2015
0413-suge-knight-cle-bone-sloan-GETTY-01The man who got run over by Suge Knight, and survived, tearfully testified in court that he would not "snitch" and help prosecutors put Suge in prison.
Cle "Bone" Sloan was called to the stand during Suge's preliminary hearing Monday AM, and the prosecutor raised the topic of snitching.
Sloan got emotional and declared he "doesn't want to be used to send this man to prison." He added, "I screwed up and Terry's dead."
It's amazing ... the guy who was laid up for weeks with broken bones from Suge plowing over him -- took the stand and tried to take the blame for Terry Carter's death ... seemingly taking some heat off Suge.
But what Bone giveth he taketh away, because by saying he wouldn't snitch and help put Suge in prison, by definition he's saying Suge did bad things that should land him in the big house.

By On Friday, April 10, 2015

The Reverend Al Sharpton won't be a fixture in the coverage surrounding Walter Scott's April 4th shooting death by white police officer North Charleston Police Officer Michael Slager.
According to The New York Daily News, Sharpton was asked to stay away from Scott's funeral by his family.
“The Reverend Al has called and expressed his support and condolences,” said family attorney Chris Stewart. “The family is very appreciative. The funeral is only going to be close family members."

Charleston Police Officer Michael Slager (left) shot and killed Walter Scott during a traffic stop
“They are in mourning and we would never come unless they asked,” Sharpton told The News. “We're willing to be helpful to the family but only when needed.”
Although the Scott has requested that he stay away, Sharpton said he will be in Charleston on Sunday.
"I have been invited to preach in North Charleston, SC, on Sunday and to help lead a healing prayer vigil that afternoon by local clergy who have worked on this case from the beginning."
Slager has been fired from the Charleston Police Department and charged with murder for shooting Scott in the back while he fled.

Co-Pilot suspected of Deliberately Crashing Germanwings Flight 9525, Killing 150 After Locking Pilot Out Of Cockpit (Video)

By On Thursday, March 26, 2015

PARIS (Associated Press) — As a frantic pilot pounded on the cockpit door and passengers screamed in panic, the Germanwings co-pilot "intentionally" sent Flight 9525 straight into the side of a mountain in the French Alps, a prosecutor said Thursday.

In a news conference in Paris, Marseille prosecutor Brice Robin laid out the horrifying conclusions reached by French aviation investigators after listening to the last minutes of the Tuesday morning flight from Barcelona to Duesseldorf. The Airbus A320 began to descend from cruising altitude after losing radio contact with ground control and slammed into the remote mountain, killing all 150 people on board.
It was the co-pilot's "intention to destroy this plane," Robin said.
He said the pilot, who has not been identified, left the cockpit, presumably to go to the lavatory, and then was unable to regain access. In the meantime, co-pilot Andreas Lubitz, a 28-year-old German, manually and "intentionally" set the plane on the descent that drove it into the mountain.

Robin said the commander of the plane knocked several times "without response." He said the door could only be blocked manually.
He said the co-pilot's responses, initially courteous, became "curt" when the captain began the mid-flight briefing on the planned landing.
The information was pulled from the black box cockpit voice recorder, but Robin said the co-pilot did not say a word after the commanding pilot left the cockpit.
"It was absolute silence in the cockpit," he said.

During the final minutes of the flight's descent, pounding could be heard on the cockpit door as plane alarms sounded but the co-pilot's breathing was normal throughout the whole time, Robin said.
"It's obvious this co-pilot took advantage of the commander's absence. Could he have known he would leave? It is too early to say," he said.
He said Lubitz had never been flagged as a terrorist and would not give details on his religion or ethnic background. He said German authorities were taking charge of the investigation into Lubitz.
Robin said just before the plane hit the mountain, the sounds of passengers screaming could be heard on the audio.
"I think the victims realized just at the last moment, " he said.
The families of victims were briefed about the shocking conclusions just ahead of the announcement.

Empire Distribution Wants Fox To Cough Up $8 Million To Use 'Empire' Name. Network Files Lawsuit

By On Wednesday, March 25, 2015

Fox is in a legal battle with record company Empire Distribution over the use of the name Empire for it's hit television series.
ED contacted Fox and demanded they stop using the name because it diminishes their brand. Especially because a "homophobic drug dealer prone to murdering his friends" is a lead character.
But here's the catch. ED would back off if Fox pays them $8 million outright or $5 million if some of their artists become regular cast members on Empire.

Fox is not giving in to the demands. TMZ reports that the network has filed a lawsuit against Empire Distribution, asking a judge to rule that ED's demands have no merit because the company is obscure.
Executives at Fox don't want this this to linger on into the second season of their show.
One thing Empire Distribution has going in it's favor is that the company was founded in 2010, five years before Empire debuted.

40 Glocc Details Fight With Game & Current State of Lawsuit

By On Tuesday, March 24, 2015

40 Glocc sat down with VladTV and explained his now infamous fight with Compton rapper Game, his definition of snitching, and the current state of his lawsuit against the "How We Do" rapper.
Game recently uploaded several photos to his Instagram account calling out 40 Glocc for suing him while claiming to be in court. One photo was a picture of 40 that Game claimed was recent, something 40 denies. He says he definitely wasn't in court that day and that Game completely made that up to make the case seem bigger than it is. He says the lawsuit is not a case of snitching because there are no criminal charges being pressed and Game faces no jail time. 40 just wants the money he feels he rightfully deserves after being jumped and slandered with "a bunch of fake sh*t."
Glocc admitted that Game had a gun to his head, while others, also armed, encouraged the rapper to shoot him. He then moved the gun from his head to his chest, all while 40 was trying to convince him to take his finger off the trigger so he wouldn't accidentally pop him. Game attempted to hit him with the pistol, missed, and then several of his people began jumping 40 for about 20 minutes.

The incident occurred at 1:13 a.m. following a performance by Gibbs at Rough Trade. Gibbs was sitting inside a black GMC Denali when shots erupted.
Investigators told Gibbs the gunman could be seen on surveillance footage stalking him inside Rough Trade.
“He [the shooter] was standing around you guys all night,” an investigator told Gibbs. “He was stalking you guys. We can tell on camera, he wanted it to look like he knew you, but it’s clear he didn’t. When you guys left, he was waiting for you outside.”

Nicki Minaj Smashes BF Safaree's Mercedes Benz With A Baseball Bat

By On Tuesday, November 04, 2014
Nobody seems to know whether Nicki Minaj and Safaree Samuals are still together, but we do have confirmation that the one/off couple have been going through it.
TMZ reports that over the summer Nicki went Barry Bonds. Chasing her man out of her crib with a bat, before using it to destroy a Mercedes Benz he had been driving.
The incident followed an argument in which the Young Money star let Safaree know he was no longer welcome at her crib by throwing his clothes out into the garage.
Nicki avoided trouble with the law because the Benz actually belonged to her. She had only let Safaree drive it while he was still in her good graces.

Report: Donald Sterling says Clippers are ‘not for sale’

By On Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Moments before NBA commissioner Adam Silver imposed a lifetime ban and a $2.5 million fine to Clippers owner Donald Sterling, who was caught on tape making racist remarks, Fox News reported that Sterling said that he will not sell his basketball team.
“I just spoke with Donald Sterling on the telephone just moments ago,” Fox News Contributor Jim Gray reported. “He is unaware of what is going to happen to him. He has not been notified [of his impending punishment by Silver]. He also said he really didn’t want to comment on the record, however the team is not for sale and he will not be selling the team.”
During his press conference, held in New York City on Tuesday, Silver pledged to work with the NBA’s owners to force Sterling to sell.
“I will urge the Board of Governors to exercise its authority to force the sale of the team,” Silver said. “I will do everything in my power to ensure that that happens.”

A three-quarters majority vote of the league’s owners is required to force out Sterling. Prior to Tuesday’s press conference, at least 16 NBA owners had issued public statements against Sterling. Other organizations that had remained silent before Tuesday – including the Jazz, Magic, Bulls, Celtics, Knicks, Bucks, Timberwolves, Thunder and Raptors — issued statements of support for Silver following the press conference.
“I fully expect to get the support I need from the other NBA owners,” Silver said.
Representatives of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) said at a press conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday that while they are pleased with Silver’s decision, they still believe Sterling must be removed as Clippers owner.
“We want maximum allowable punishment under the bylaws and constitution and what that equates to for us as players, there must be a change in ownership,” said Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, who is acting as an adviser for the NBPA.
“As players, we’re very happy with the decision, but we’re not content yet,” NBPA vice president Roger Mason Jr. said. “We want immediate action. We want a timetable from the owners on when this vote is going to happen. We feel confident that with Adam Silver’s urging, and we’ve heard from a lot of the owners around the league, we think this is something that can be handled quickly.”
The Clippers’ organization, independent of Sterling, issued a statement on Tuesday applauding Silver’s decision.
“We wholeheartedly support and embrace the decision by the NBA and Commissioner Adam Silver today,” the statement read. “Now the healing process begins.”
Sterling, who is the NBA’s longest-tenured owner, bought the Clippers in 1981 for a reported $12.5 million. Forbes recently valued the franchise at $575 million, however the recent sale of the Bucks for $550 million would seem to indicate the Clippers are worth significantly more than that figure.
TMZ released audio Friday of a conversation in which Sterling can be heard scolding V. Stiviano, his girlfriend, for bringing African-Americans to Clippers games and for posting photos of herself and African-Americans, including Lakers legend Magic Johnson, to her Instagram account.
Silver said the NBA was able to authenticate that it was Sterling’s voice on the tape and that Sterling acknowledged that it was his voice during the investigation.
